Kemar Bailey-Cole

Speaking to Jamaica’s Gleaner newspaper ahead of his seasonal debut in the Diamond League this weekend at the Adidas Grand Prix in New York, Kemar is aiming for a quick time. After closing last season with a 9.97-second time in Brussels in September, the sprinter is hoping to repeat the feat to start the year.

‘It has been different when compared to previous years. This year, I have got to do most of my background and track workouts. In previous years, I had been plagued by a lot of foot problems.’ Bailey-Cole told the newspaper.

‘My focus going into New York will be to execute properly. I most definitely need to work on my start. I would be satisfied with anything under 10 seconds or under 10.09.’

The sprint star had a seasons best of 10.09 in his last race in the Cayman Invitational but he has set his sights on the World Championships this summer in Moscow.

‘My main goal for the season is to make the World Championships team, not only as a member of the relay squad, but also in the 100m.’
