Described by his coach, Glen Mills as ‘the next big thing’, Kemar Bailey-Cole is the latest sub 10 seconds 100m sprinter from Jamaica. The Spanish Town sprinter had a breakout season in 2012 winning a gold medal in the 4x100m in the Olympic Games in London, running an excellent anchor leg in the semi-final. He placed 5th in the Jamaican Olympic Trials and improved his personal best to 9.97 secs for a third place finish in the Memorial van Damme Diamond League meeting in Brussels. Earlier in the season he won the 100m in the ISTAF Berlin meeting in 10.00 secs and also topped the podium in Kingston, Warsaw and the B race in Zurich.

Kemar had a successful junior career.  After winning the 2009 Jamaican U17 100m Champs KBC progressed to the semi-finals in the IAAF World Youth T & F Championships in Bressanone, Italy.

One year later and representing Old Harbour High School he won silver in the 100m in the Jamaican Schools Boy and Girls Champs and another silver in the Jamaican National Junior Track and Field Championships.  He then joined Racers Track Club in 2010 and under the guidance of Glen Mills with training partners including Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake.  After battling injuries in the early part of 2011 he came back to win the silver medal in 100m in the Carifta Games in Montego Bay and compete in the professional circuit in Europe for the first time.

Kemar started the 2013 season well, a photo finish was need to split KBC and Usain Bolt in the Cayman Island’s both recording a 10.09. KBC set a new PB a few weeks later, running 9.96 seconds in the JAAA All Comers meet at Kingston’s National Stadium. KBC set an even better PB of 9.93 seconds at the World Championships in Moscow that summer.

In 2014, Kemar became the Commonwealth Games Champion, winning the 100m at Hampden Park in Glasgow.
